A couple days ago, I was out gathering barley straw from a farmer’s field and managed to get quite a bit of it for future bee skep making classes.
The farmer got quite a kick out of me mixing up the names of the grains in the fields. I kept calling the oats “barley” and the barley “oats.” And then in the nicest way he said, “You’re not really a country farm girl, now are you?”
We all got a laugh out of that one. Guess you can live in the country almost all your life, but you’re still not considered a farmer, especially if you can’t keep the grains straight and call them by the right name! The only excuse I have is to blame it on my dyslexia!
I may be teaching the classes yet this fall, or perhaps propose for workshops next year in 2010. If you are interested in such a class, email me and we’ll see what we can arrange!
