I posted this picture because I’m constantly being asked if it’s OK to use wicker furniture outside? The answer is “No,” especially if it’s an antique! Wicker furniture is not meant to be used and left outside.
This is what happens when you leave an antique reed wicker outside exposed to the elements–it’s destroyed. What you probably can’t tell from the photo is that all the reed is rotten and the fibers are very brittle. The hardwood frame has also rotted and is now waterlogged and warped.
What a shame this nice piece wasn’t cared for properly by its previous owners!
I ended up using it in my garden as a plant support and sculpture! I cut out the seat and used it as a support for my growing Peonies!
