Hi Cathryn,
I have an antique chair with a cane seat. I just noticed 1 strand broke so took it away from the table so it wouldn’t get worse. Can that get repaired somehow or the whole thing needs to be replaced? No one on your list is near me to bring it to.
Thanks!
Hi Laura,
So sorry to hear about the broken strand of cane on your chair seat but since there’s only one strand broken that you know of, there are several things you can do before having the entire seat replaced.
I always suggest to my clients that they wait until the entire seat fails before they take it to get replaced. And in the meantime, you can follow my advice and suggestions on the “How-to Care for Your Cane Furniture” page. You might be surprised how long a chair seat can last with just the simple addition of using a seat cushion!
And regarding finding a chair caning professional near you in New York, did you check all the listings in the National Furniture Repair Directory™ and nearby States and also under the Upholstery category, too? Keep in mind that it’s also possible to ship some of the smaller chairs to the repair person.
Good luck, and I hope this information is helpful.
